FUHS Class of 1960 Reunion

Me, Byron Sullivan, Dave Fleenor, Carl Smith, Rex Barnes, Richard Foringer, Fred Fernald, Frank Schmidt, J.C. French, and John (Buddy) Buck

The FUHS Class of 1960 held their 50th reunion this past October in Temecula, Califiornia. (I’m not sure why I was invited because I am surely not old enough to have gone to school with them). Right!! But what a great time we had there! I hung out with my old buddies, some of whom I had not seen since the 1960′s. It was three days of fun. Here are a couple of pictures of some of my high school friends.

Our Neighbor Gang Reunion

Once again this year Jean Bellinger Jacques invited many old high school classmates and friends from our old neighborhood in Fullerton to a reunion at her home in Yorba Linda. It was tons of fun, I saw several kids for the first time since high school, and the food was terrific (grilled to perfection by Jay (Jan) Campbell. Here are a coup[le of group pictures od attendees with their spouses and/or significant others. Thank you Jean for a wonderful time!

Bethel School Reunion

On September 17,2010, in Brighton, Michigan, we celebrated a reunion of our classmates from our one-room schoolhouse in the woods at School Lake in Brighton. I published a picture of all of us taken in the 1949-50 school year earlier in this blog. You can view it by clicking on the link to Bethel School and read the entire story of how we were able to re-connect after 60+ years.

It was truly amazingl to visit with these childhood classmates and carry on conversations as if time had never separated us. The most amazing thing is that everybody appeared to be successful, pursuing careers as educators, enterpreneurs, servicemen/women, businessmen/women, musicians, literally all walks of life! And all of us felt that we owed it all to our beloved teacher, Mrs. Georgia Fitzpatrick, who inspired us with hope, taught us to love – ourselves as well as our classmates, taught us the importance of education, and taught us to believe in ourselves. Many of our discussions centered around this woman who worked so hard and gave so much of herself to her students in that one-room schoolhouse.

Here is a photo of the classmates that were able to attend this reunion. Unfortunately, a few had passed away, and we remembered them with sincere fondness and great memories. Heartfelt thanks go out to Suzanne Campbell Conerway who worked so hard and selflessly to make this wonderful event happen.  Fantastic  job!!

Ron Wansor Visit

We were further pleasantly surprised recently when my high school buddy, Ronnie Wansor, called and said he was driving his brand spankin’ new rig through Kansas City and had all day Sunday off. It didn’t take long to find his truck stop and bring him home for our weekly Sunday family dinner. What a fun time we had. He thinks he died and went to heaven, driving this brand new, bright orange tractor-trailer. What a beautiful truck! All the convenience of home inside. Anyway, we enjoyed rehashing the good old days once again. Hope to see him again at our high school reunion in California this fall. Here is a photo of my sister Linda, Maria, Ronnie, my mom, and me.

Jim Littleworth Visit

We were pleasantly surprised last month when our nephew, Jim Littleworth, came to visit us for a few days with my brother Gary. We had not seen him since he was a baby boy way back in the early 70′s due to divorce, etc.. What a wonderful young man he turned out to be! He lives in the Seattle area with his lovely wife and two kids, and is an avid golfer (yeah!). We hope he visits us again soon with his whole family. You can see his family photos on his Facebook page, James Littleworth. Here is a photo taken during his visit to KC of Jim, my brother Gary, and me.

Weekend in Chicago

Nicole, Brady, Preston and I all packed into my car at 6:00AM on Friday morning  for the nine hour trip to Chicago to visit Sally and Rob for the weekend. We were all wondering how 22-month old grandson, Brady, would act on such a long trip. Wow! Were we pleasantly surprised. He was fabulous the entire trip – never a squawk out of him and very little sleeping either way. What a miracle. Nicole kept him entertained with playthings and puzzles to do in his car seat and he loved it. We went to the Navy Pier, the Zoo the Aquarium, and even to an orchestra concert in Millenium Park one night (Brady loves orchestras, especially the violins and cellos). We had a wonderful time with my son Rob, wife Sally, and their dog Stella. Packed up early Monday morning and headed back home. Long drive, but well worth it!

The pictures are from the 4th of July and the Aquarium. Enjoy!

Symphony in the Flint Hills

Maria and I and my sister Linda attended an annual Kansas prarie event in the Flint Hills of central Kansas. The Kansas City Symphony played out in the middle of nowhere while a cattle drive took place in the hills behind the stage while they were playing cowboy style symphonies, and featuring Lyle Lovett singing.

It was an amazing event to behold even though it was warm and muggy and the skies were pretty hazy most of the time. What a wonderful experience!!  Over 500 head of cattle and 15 or so cowboys driving them.

They also offered food and beer tents, Prarie Hills history and demonstration tents, cowboy exhibit tents, art exhibits and sales, a silent auction, and dancing to cowboy music. So much fun. The beer lines were so long Maria volunteered to work behind one of the booths for an hour to help out. I think she just wanted free drinks!

The only drawback was the long 1-1/2 mile walk to get in. But there were lots of cowboys along the way. There were also covered wagon rides.

Sally’s Graduation from Loyola Business School

Our daughter-in-law, Sally Saccamondo Littleworth, just graduated from Business School in May. Following a nice graduation ceremony her sister Becky hosted a wonderful reception at her beautiful new condo near downtown Chicago. A good time was had by all.

Where has the time gone – reprise?

My brother just reminded me that I do have this blog sitting idle since last November. I’m not sure if I am that busy now, or if it’s just old age setting in. But I promised him I would update with pictures more regularly. So here I go.
